I like that towards the end of the book, you cant seem to put it down. I was angry at the grandfather for leaving his wife in the first place so i was very glad that he came back. that took a lot of courage on his part to come back after all that time. The more time that passes the harder it is to go back and apologize. I am glad he got to at least meet Oskar since he never really got to know his son.
Also i feel like we got a chance to see Oskar grow up a little and learn to deal with his emotions and the hurt that he was feeling. I am glad he decided to share his journey and his feelings with other people. In doing so he learns how to deal and that hes not the only one going through a loss.

At first I was angry with the grandfather for leaving also. But as you read the letters he has written to Oskar's father, you can't really be angry. He was leaving because he was so afraid to actually love someone and he felt that he couldn't be a good father or husband. Although in a way he deceived his wife, she was just as sneaky because she was so desperate for attention. She pretended that she couldn't see just so her husband would pay her extra attention. They both lied to each other because they were searching for something they needed, they just couldn't seem to find anything in the right places. Which is why there were so many rules and spaces of something and nothing.

I really liked the ending if the novel. Im glad that even though Oskar didn't get exactly what he wanted he was able to learn something from his experience, the only disappointment is that I don't think he got it, not yet at least. He is definitely bright enough in my opinion to eventually get what Mr. Black was saying. Mr. Black had tried to avoid dealing with his father's death by selling all of his items, by doing so getting rid of his father's memory. As it turned out however, the key to his inheretance was among the items sold and his mission from then on was finding the key, in the end it wasn't about the inheretance but about finding his father again. Im certain that Oskar will eventually grasp, if he hasn't begun already, that he can't run away from his father's death.

I was very excited to learn that Oskar's grandfather was the renter. I understood why the grandmother wanted to keep Oskar away from him, but the grandfather had good intentions. He wanted to know his grandson so he could get an understanding of what kind of father his son turned out to be and to get a sense of who is son was, since he never knew him. I was kind of expecting an attempt by the grandfather to run away again, but was not expecting the grandmother to go after him or even an agreement to stay. I thought it took some courage on his part to stay and face his past at last.
