Molly Peacock talks of "Desire" within her peom and makes a couple of very good and interesting points. Desire is not somthing that can be taught. It is acquired by your own experiences depending upon your individual set of values. Desire is a drive which is the basis for all elements within your life. I really understand and appreciate this work.

Desire is one of those things that ends up getting everyone into trouble at one point. This poem explains quite well the reason why, it is uncontrolable and instinctual. It comes and goes without logical thought and it doesn't matter wether or not it makes sense, you want what your heart wants. This can be a problem even though Molly Peacock doesn't admit it in her poem. Desire is the fuel behind competition and indulgence; too much can be a bad thing. However, peacock takes a surprising neutral standpoint in discussing the definition of "desire" which I really like but I would have taken the time to butcher it.

I really liked this poem. I thought it had great details in the description of what desire is. "It doesn't speak and it isn't schooled," means to me that desire is natural trait that can't be learned. The line about desire being an eyes shut ears shut medicine of the heart, just lets me know that desire isn't controlled by your conscience it just makes you feel good. This poem really makes you think about what desire really is and why we all have it and how essential it is to our lives.

We all desire something in life. Whether we speak of this thing we desire or not. It's there. We don't have to tell anyone that we desire it either. Even the idea of desire isn't something that we bring upon ourselves, it just happens. Like we are given the act of desiring something without having to learn to desire it. Desiring something sometimes is what keeps people's lives going. The desire of love, freedom, and happiness are all in us before we can even want them. We're born with desire, and we act on that desire. A person wants love, they will get that love if they go out and find that special someone. Desire, it's a great thing in life, it helps to fulfill dreams, because you won't give up if you desire it enough.

I really like Molly Peacock's comment on desire on this poem. In this poem she explains that desire is the most basic of instincts. As soon as we are born we all desire something, whether it is water, food, warmth or whatever. This feeling of desire cannot be taught or learned it is ingrained in each and every one of us from the very beginning. Desire is also deeper set than logic of the brain or reason. It also exceeds the powers of routine or time. It is more powerful than the mechanics of life. Like she says it is more powerful than "part-fit-into-part-fit-into-part-fit-into-part." This poem does a splendid job of explaining aspects of an instinct like desire that I never really would have thought of had it not been made known to me by Molly Peacock.

I love this poem by Molly Peacock. I think it is a great definition of what desire is. It cannot be taught and it comes in a variety of forms, sometimes gentle and tame, other times wild and savage. So much of our lives are driven by desire: our goals, our hopes, our dreams. Without it, what would drive us? What would motivate us to do the things that we need to do? We may not be able to see it or hear it, but it’s always there, floating just barely out of our reach. It’s what pushes us and it doesn’t need a reason. It just exists and sometimes we don’t understand it at all. We may not know why we desire what we desire, we just know that we do and that we’d do anything to get it. It’s not always rational or even tangible but we always know when we have achieved it, and that feeling is greater than anything else in the world.

Desire means something more after you experience the death of a friend. Every poem I read and every song I hear I think of my friend who passed away a couple days ago. He had a great desire in life before he died. He wanted to live for the Lord. He never knew he would die this young... but seeing him have this desire to live like he did, inspires me to live the same. Desire can't be thought. I can honestly say my friend lived the best he could for God and that was his desire he lived for.

deisre is the name of a great bob dylan album. it is such an intense word, is it not. desire, it is ambiguous but so meaningful. it can be related to by everyone andd yet everyone will have a hard time discerning how exactly the word applies to them. hte word is just like this poem. thats probobly because the poem is about only desire. it defines it in a way that is fascinating and fun to read. it is a deseptively simple poem just like desire. their simplicity is their most important element and it allows them to touch us on the deepest of levels.
